Art Without Borders by Ben Sharfstein - Hardcover, 543 pages

Another delve into ABC Radio National’s Late Night Live archives, this time for a fairly heavyweight talk with author and distinguished philosopher Ben-Ami Scharfstein about his latest book “Art Without Borders: A Philosophical Exploration of Art and Humanity“.

One of the most engaging things about this elightening interview is how pleasingly lively this 90 year old fellow is. You can hear him smile & occasionally chuckle as he talks – it’s nice.

Ben-Ami Scharfstein discusses his theories of how without contrast we are essentially blind, about how the relationship between the artist and the art-consumer resembles that of gift-giver and gift receiver, and the artistic preferencial difference between left-handed and right handed people.

The talk also touches on historical changes in the perception of art which echos back to some degree to our old friend “My Name is Red”

The interview is wide-ranging but is also thoroughly engaging – sounds like it would be a great read for the deep thinker.
